Ralph1 GRACIE was born in DFS, Scotland circa 1790. Ralph died 3 JUN 1844 in Richmond, Tasmania, at 53 years of age. Described in the Richmond Cof E burial register as a settler of White Kangaroo Rivulet, aged 52. His body was interred 8 JUN 1844 in Richmond, Tasmania. Buried at Congregational Cemetery, Richmond. Ref. NS 493/9 No. 461 (Shown as Ralph Gracy).

He married Christina (Kirsty) MORE in Scotland. Christina was born in STI, Scotland circa 1796. Christina died 8 DEC 1874 in Richmond, Tasmania, at 78 years of age. Her body was interred DEC 1874 in Richmond, Tasmania. Buried at Congregational Cemetery, Richmond. Ref. RGD 35/43 1874 Richmond No.672.

Christina's occupation: Dairywoman. Christina became the mother of Ralph GRACIE in Scotland, circa 1823. She was imprisoned in Glasgow, LKS, Scotland, 17 APR 1828. Tried at Glasgow for uttering forged notes and sentenced to transportation for 7 years. She may also have been tried with her husband Ralph according to her statement. Aged 33, a dairywoman and maid of all work, native place Sterling, was married with 3 children, was a Protestant and could read and write. (Con 40/7; ML7).

She emigrated, 13 SEP 1828. Point of origin: England. Sailed on ship 'Harmony', 373 tons, built at St John's in 1818, Master - Bennett Ireland, Surgeon - Wm. Clifford. Voyage of 123 days. Kirsty Gracie arrived in V.D.L. per "Harmony" 14 January 1829, having been tried at Glasgow 17 April 1828 for uttering forged notes, and sentenced to transportation for 7 years. She may have also been tried with her husband Ralph according to her statement. She arrived under the name of Kirsty More or Gracie, was aged 33, a dairywoman and maid of all work, native place Sterling, was married, with 3 children, was a Protestant and could read and write. (Con 40/7; ML7) On board with her was her son Ralph Gracie aged 2 years (aged 4 years on his mother's conduct record). (CSO 1/368/8375) Christina Gracie died in the Richmond district 8 December 1874 aged 84, described as 'widow of constable'. (RGD 672/1874). Convict No. 55286.

He had a wife and child/children in Glasgow; was aged 40, a labourer and worker on steam engines; and his native place was Dunfries.

He emigrated, 13 JUL 1827. Point of origin: England. Sailed on Barque 'Asia', 455 tons, built at Whitby in 1813, Master - Jn. Edman, Surgeon - Campbell France. Voyage of 121 days.

He was granted a pardon in Hobart, Tasmania, 6 JAN 1841. Conditional Pardon No. 2789. (Con 31/15; ML4; Pol 29/20/2, p.131) Ralph Gracie arrived in V.D.L. per "Asia 2", 30 November 1827, having been tried at Glasgow for uttering forged notes 7 May 1827, and sentenced to transportation for life. He had a wife and child/children in Glasgow; was aged 40, a labourer and worker on steam engines; and his native place was Dumfries. He was appointed a constable at Richmond 18 May 1831 and was dismissed 26 September 1834. He received a conditional pardon 6 January 1841. (Con 31/15; ML4; Pol 29/20/2, p.131) Ralph Gracie was living at Richmond in 1842 according to the census of that year; in the house also were a female, married, 45-60 and a single male 14-21. She had arrived as a convict and he had arrived free. (Con 1/37) Ralph Gracie died in the Richmond area 3 June 1844; described in the Richmond C. of E. burial register as a settler, of White Kangaroo Rivulet aged 52. He was buried 8 June 1844.
